The Snowy Tree Cricket (Oecanthus fultoni), a member of the family Gryllidae, or true crickets, is found in deciduous forests throughout north America. It feeds on caterpillars of Butterflies and Moths and plant damaging aphids. Not your regularly seen cricket and easily confused with the Katydid. Also, note the spots on the petals of the rose, these are from aphids or other suctorial insects that pierce the plant and suck up their cell contents for food. The snowy tree cricket helps the rose by eating those creatures. Besides eating plant pests for us, they provide night music with their mating calls.
