Sometimes, you catch a perfect bloom with the right illumination.  This member of the Aster family (Asteraceae) is found from Canada to Mexico in the plains states including Texas. Its pretty purple blooms appear May through October and likes dry, well-drained sandy or rocky soils.  For more information you can consult the Native Plant Information Network.
