Convolvulus arvensis is an introduced species from Europe that can be found throughout the US and Canada. It belongs to the Convolvulaceae family, also known as the Morning Glories. The trumpet shaped flowers of this species come in white and pink. Pictured here is a pink flowered variety.
Field Bindweed is the common name of this species and you can see that its vines can encircle and choke other plants. Their other name is possesion vine. Their rapid growth and their encirclement of other plants can lead to the death of these plants which makes them a pest species to crop farmers.
Despite their problematic nature, their flowers can be a beautiful addition to the garden if one takes steps to manage their misbehavior.
